Vintages Weekend

1) Volunteers for the World Vintage Rugby Carnival; Aug. 20-27.
Everyone is expected to participate. Friends and significant others are welcome to volunteer as well.
Volunteers should e-mail Jim Nordin with their availability: jim.nordin@rogers.com They should include their e-mail address, cell number, if they have Smart Serve and t-shirt size. If they are bringing a female volunteer along then they should make note of that so we get a women’s t-shirt. We are looking at a volunteers party after the event since there is no drinking alcohol while working. Please email to acquire the schedule: leepowell@rogers.com
2) The Bytown Rugby Foundation is up and running: www.bytownrugbyfoundation.com. People can donate for either Bytown Blues only or EORU players and the George Fortier Scholarship.
3) There will be a silent auction at the closing banquet to raise funds for the Foundation. Anyone that can score us something to auction off would be great. If you can get something contact Lee Powell: leepowell@rogers.com

From the President

Apologies for taking so long to post after Blues day; been busy with personal matters and the chaos which is EORU Juniors. I hope everyone enjoyed Blues Day, great rugby and great to see the old faces at the park. A great day to honour Gerry.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Rick Veit and family, for the miscommunication surrounding the ceremony for Gerry with the Veit family. Rick is a valued member of the Blues family and rugby community. I have spoken with Rick and personally apologized for the grave error, I am deeply sorry for the pain this has caused he and his family.
In talking with Rick, I will be looking to put before the board, measures that will hopefully help address this issue, and ensure that this does not happen again.
To me it seems that it is quite apparent that the club needs to resurrect the social committee, and engage our Old Boys more closely for the planning of our events (Blues Day, Dinner and Banquet, etc…). They are better connected to the wider Blues Rugby community.
As the club motto says, Advance!
– Jim Shaw
