The Bytown Blues has been selected as the hosts of the Vintages International Rugby Event for the 2017 year. Right in time for the other 2017 celebrations that will be going on around town. This is the press release that Vintages Sport and Leisure put out:

“Vintage Sport and Leisure Ltd (VSL), Auckland, New Zealand, is delighted to announce that the host city for the 8th World Vintage Rugby Carnival will be Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 2017.

VSL is excited to bring the Vintage international rugby event to Canada’s capital city during Canada’s 150th birthday. It is anticipated that over 1000 old boys rugby players from around the world will converge on Ottawa from Aug 21-27 for a week of rugby and social functions.

The host club in Ottawa for the event will be the Bytown Blues Rugby Club. The Bytown Blues are pleased to bring this international event to Ottawa to demonstrate that rugby is a life long sport and the camaraderie that goes with rugby.

All Vintage Rugby Carnivals have a commitment to supporting the local rugby community and the 2017 event will support the Bytown Rugby Foundation.

A special thanks to Ottawa Tourism for their assistance in acquiring the bid and to Rugby Canada, Rugby Ontario and the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union for their support.
